Thanks!

Rock the Coast!

So the same people that bring you Unity 2010 also bring you a fun “little” event each and every May entitled, “Rock the Coast”. It’s a play on the fact that the concert takes place at Michigan’s Adventure, where they have rollerCOASTers!

Kevin Newton, from Unity Christian Events and Alive on the Lakeshore was just on the Morning Show here at JQ99 (The Chris & Emilee Show) to reveal the line up for this year’s “Rock the Coast”.

(Note: Unlike “Unity”…”Rock the Coast” is geared toward the teen age group.)

Here’s the line-up!

Great line-up guys! Can’t was to see you May 22nd at Michigan’s Adventure in Muskegon!

More details HERE!

DC Talk Reunion…Kind of…

Quick story before we get to the meat of today’s story.

I haven’t always been a Christ follower. During my days when I was sorting it all out I had a Big Brother, Chris. Chris was one of those college age guys from the Big Brother, Big Sister program.

Anyway…Chris was the one who really introduced me to Christian music. First album he gave me to listen to…DC Talk – “Jesus Freak”. Now…Unfortunately, I can’t say that this single event is what directed me towards a life of being a Christ follower, but it was a start by grabbing me at my core with music.

So…Flash Forward to February 2010 and you have the Winter Jam 2010 tour. Newsboys are there with new lead signer, and former DC Talk member, Michael Tait. Also…tobyMac is there, who’s also a former DC Talk member. So what happens when Newsboys close their set with “Jesus Freak”? See below:

Thanks to Total Axxess for the video!

Anybody else have neck and arm hairs stand on end? Okay good…I wasn’t the only one.

Awesome!

Indie Thursday – Sargent Avenue

JQ99 and hard rock. Not really like peanut butter and chocolate. However…That doesn’t mean that it’s okay to ignore listening through that type of song when they roll into my inbox now does it?

So…I didn’t! Sargent Avenue recently sent me a couple of their latest tunes. Here are my thoughts:

Sargent Avenue – “Nightmare”
- I really like the sound of this tune. I’m not sure if I see it as a fit on JQ, but then again, the verses and pre-chorus sound like I could hear them in a mainstream artists song.
- It has some really interesting elements. Not bad.
- In the end though…I don’t hear it on JQ. Sorry.

Sargent Avenue – “To Whom It May Concern”
- Cool intro…Kind of a Lincoln Park sound.
- The mix is well done and overall, it’s a pretty good tune. Personally…I’m not a fan of the screaming, creepy bridge thing. That sound always gives my creepy chills.
- It sounds a bit too “hard rock” for JQ, but I have to believe that there’s a home for either of these songs on a more CHR station.

You can listen through these tunes and find out more about Sargent Avenue over at their MySpace Page!

Thanks for sharing guys! Keep up the good work!

Secret Invitation?

Okay…So I showed up for work this morning and found some packages on my desk, ONE of them contained the following:

In case you can’t read the note, it basically gives me some details about a special listening party with some of the groups on the Winter Jam Tour.

With my special “Back Stage Pass” I’ll have a chance to enjoy new music from Tenth Avenue North, Fireflight, and Revive. Looks like I’ll also have some time to just hang and connect as well as hear stories behind their songs!

2 things. First…Fun way to grab me into a fun promotion. Second…I can’t wait! Sounds like a blast!

I’ll keep you updated in what happens and maybe even provide some video, you know…if I can.

The [M]useum

Ever heard of “The [M]useum”. I haven’t, but apparently…They’ve heard about me. I received an email today with a link to a video featuring the guys from “The [M]useum” introducing themselves and sharing a special message just for me!

Car Tunes Caraoke – Episode 2

Alright…Here we are, the next installment of what I’m calling “Car Tunes Caraoke”. Again…The basic premise is that I set my phone to record, turn on JQ99 (the station I work for), and sing along to WHATEVER song is on, regardless if I know the words or can even sing it.

Today’s…is a little interesting and timely. Interesting because it’s a female vocalist, and timely because she also happens to be up for a Dove Award which I just posted about earlier this morning. So…Without further ado…Here’s Episode 2 of “Car Tunes Caraoke”!

Note: That cute lil’ thing in the back seat, is my daughter Emerson. :)
